One of the most distinuished intellectuals analyzing the major global religions and their common roots, as well as ways of understanding and misunderstanding, is Swiss-born scholar of theology and philosophy Hans Kueng.

He is the President of the Stiftung Weltethos (Global Ethic Foundation see here) promoting universal rules for tolerance and respect.

From 1960 to 1996 he was professor for Ecumencial Theology at the University of Tuebingen. Becoming famous in 1979 when the Vatican withdrew Dr Kueng's ecclesiastical teaching permission because of his opposition against the doctrine of papal infallibility, he retained his chair of the institute and his intellectual independence.

A prominent author of several standard books about Islam, Christianity and Judaism and prominent speaker he has a profound influence on the promoting of understanding, respect and tolerance.
